This new toolkit offers you the chance to assess different food production systems for social, economic and environmental benefits.
Each of the 37 different food systems includes an image which helps envisage its scale, is summarised by yields and benefits, any considerations needed and detail about skill and cost of set up and maintenance.
The cards can be used in conjunction with a masterplan by designers and planners, or at community consultation phase of a project, or educational setting.
The pack is either sold on its own, or to include two hour's online consultancy on a project of your choice (or in person if near Oxford).
There is also an optional 6 hour training session available to explore how the cards work in practice. The training is run regularly, and can also be delivered in your workplace for your team.
Check out our Events page for dates or contact us for a bespoke training.
This Toolkit was designed in response to Rachel's (our Founder) experience of Higher Educational courses on Urban Design and Landscape Architecture and the lack of food production knowledge and education amongst design professionals. It has been designed to be mobile, informative and inspirational.

"The Urban Food Production Toolkit is perfect for anyone seeking to create an urban food growing project! The cards are beautiful and informative, covering everything from rooftop gardens, and aquaponic greenhouses to rain gardens and raised beds. If you thought urban food production was highly complex, think twice! This toolkit will make you realise how easy and accessible it really is."
Eve D. MSc student in Environmental Change and Management
"The toolkit is informative, attractive, easy to use and simple to digest."
Tanya K. Landscape Architect
"I received the urban food toolkit today and it’s every bit as brilliant as I imagined it. What a brilliant piece of work. I shared the toolkit with my board colleagues who were equally as impressed as I was."
Penney P. Nottingham Good Food Partnership
"Urban Design OBU benefited greatly from a workshop on urban food production using the UFP toolkit by Rachel Hammond of Edge landscaping. The students managed to develop a masterplan for a global city site measuring the productivity of their designs, management issues as well as understanding the social and environmental benefits of UFP. The workshops are compelling and effective for valuing UFP."
